Description

Name: SVK Road To Fame
Breed: Irish Setter
Gender: male
Age: 2yrs 6mo

Owner: Sunrise Valley Kennels
Handler: Heather Morganson

---- Story: ---
Heather adjusted her silk blouse a little self consciously, aware of just how overdressed she was for a dog "good citizen" test. But she wasn't in St. Paul too often and a meeting had coincided with the available test times, so she had just decided to bring Reilly along to the quick meeting and then headed over to the park just off Lexington Ave for the test. He had been a model citizen during her coffee meeting, and Heather had no doubts about his readiness to prove his abilities later.
They arrived at the park and Heather got out to greet the woman waiting for them.
"Are you Heather Morganson?, she asked.
"Yes, I apologize for being a few minutes late. I just got out of a meeting," Heather said, gesturing to her business attire.
"Ah, I wondered! Well glad you could make it today. I'm Anita," she offered. "Well, should we get started?"
"Sure," Heather said. She opened up the car door, and Reilly waited politely while she clipped his leash on before inviting him to come out.
"This is my Irish Setter, Reilly", she introduced.
"What a pretty boy!" Anita said.
Reilly's tongue lolled out of his mouth and his tail waged, but he stayed quietly next to Heather. There was a playground near by, and Heather put a long line on him before having him lay down and stay in the sand area next to a slide. Even with the  children running around and playing, Reilly stayed, his focus on Heather. She was glad they had done extra training around children as that use to be one of his biggest weaknesses!
Heather recalled him, and switched back to the leash. They went back and left the long line in the car before heading out down the sidewalk.
As they neared a bench, a little boy with his mom saw Reilly and was very excited about the "dog dog!" Heather had the dog sit and the little boy enjoyed patting his head and trying to touch the dog's nose (and eyes.. ahem ;) ). Reilly's tail wagged vigorously and he tried to lick the little boys face once (probably some left over lunch residue?), but he stayed in place.
They moved on to the busy sidewalk along Grand Ave. It was around noon and many people were out walking or heading to lunch. Anita followed behind and watched as Heather and Reilly navigated through the busy crowd, the dog staying close to the handler's left side. The leash was loose, indicating that he was there by choice and not by force.
Soon they headed back to the park.
"What a good dog!" Anita commented with a smile when they were back by their cars. "You both did very well."
"Thank you so much!" Heather exclaimed. "I'm pretty proud of him."
