STORY

A week later, it was "show time". The day dawned with some clouds in the sky, but the bright blue nordic sky and some warm sunshine peaked through in places, as if to honour the national colours. It was still cool spring weather, not unlike what was back home. Heather was still feeling a bit off, but she tried to ignore it. No time to deal with that now - she needed to focus on this competition.
It was definitely nice to have Rachel along. The peppy blonde made Heather smile with her enthusiasm, and Rachel's energy made up for what Heather was lacking at the moment. Rachel had grown alot in her past two years at SVI though, and a more mature side of her was starting to come through. She had the sensitivity to notice that Heather was not her self, and the insight to know that as an introvert, Heather sometimes just needed some space. So the formerly oblivious Rachel carried out as much as she could to take the load off Heather.
She had the tack cleaned and ready the night before, and Tux was gleaming and braided by the time Heather was ready. Taking the reins from Rachel, Heather smiled and thanked her for her hard work. "He looks great! Ready to take on the world one last time, big boy?"
They waited outside the beautiful arena, ringed by a throng of spectators and the colourful national flags that rustled softly in the spring breeze. Tux was like a rock. Heather leaned over onto his strong neck, breathing in his smell and feeling the warmth of his big, black body. Soon the competitor before them was coming out of the arena and it was their turn.
They entered the ring at a canter, and coming straight towards the judges box, halted near the center of the arena. Tux stood calm and (mostly) square while Heather saluted, and they trotted forward. Trot, canter, lead changes, leg yields... the old campaigner knew his stuff and never missed a beat. Heather was glad, as her tummy was still complaining at her. They came to a walk and Tuxedo stretched out nice and relaxed. They halted and showed a good back-up, before cantering some circles with lovely bend and flow. The test was only a few minutes long, and soon the team was trotting back up the center line to halt and salute the judges again. Heather gave the big black stallion a well deserved pat on the neck - it was an excellent start to the weekend!

This turned out so wonderfully   Tuxedo looks like he's really got a big powerful stride, I'd imagine he's got a lot of "schvung" (I cannot for the life of me figure out what it's called in English, so I looked up an explanation and translated it instead of using a single simple word so you know what I'm talking about and not just flinging gibberish at you <.< "When the horse moves forward it uses its hind legs both to push and carry itself. This is called pushing force and carrying capacity. Schvung is when the horse uses more and more carrying capacity, ie when the hoof stays more firmly and for a long time in the ground and the horse carries his body instead of only "shoveling" forward . If you develop the schvung you may ultimately ride passage ( so you have an idea of what feeling you are searching for)").  Anyway, I really like this horse, good luck to him in the show :la:
